CONCERNING THE ATTACK ON AMERICA

by George J. Matranga

On the morning of September 11th, my wife, Tammie, called me at the office…our nation had been attacked. As I watched the news, I was shocked at the scenes of a jet crashing into the World Trade Center. The Lord reminded me of a vision I had had a few years ago. I shared this vision with only a handful of people. I prophesied that a commercial airliner would crash in New York City. “A distressing vision is declared to me…My heart wavered, fearfulness frightened me.” Is. 21:2,4 NKJV In fear of being labeled a false or self-proclaimed prophet, I did not share this prophecy publicly. However, the burden was so strong I did reveal it to a few trusted constituents. In my fear of not wanting to do wrong, I failed to do right. I have since repented and I now share what is on my heart. “Then I said, ‘I will not…speak anymore in His name.’ But His word was in my heart like a burning fire…I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.” Jer. 20:9 NKJV

On that tragic Tuesday I fell on my knees and wept. God is judging this country for turning its back on His law. “Hear, O earth! Behold I will certainly bring calamity on this people…because they have not heeded My words nor My law, but rejected it.” Jer. 6:19 NKJV He has been sending a series of judgements — disease, war, drought, famine and floods — to awaken us to our sins. We are only reaping the consequences of a nation in rebellion against a holy God. Unless this country repents of its continued wickedness — untold millions of abortions, banishment of God from the public arena, outlawing prayer in schools, worship of false gods, promotion of the homosexual agenda, sexual debauchery and shameless idolatries — God will not bless America! “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: since you have forgotten me and thrust me behind your back, you must bear the consequences of your lewdness and prostitution.” Eze. 23:35 NIV For years this nation has made a mockery of true freedom – a freedom “free” of restraints and stipulations. Today in America, what is termed “freedom” is no more than lawlessness: freedom of choice – a license to kill; freedom of expression – a right to live wrong; freedom of speech – the liberty of vulgarity. Through this insanity, we have only forfeited our right to exist securely as one nation under God. Unifying under the banner of a patriotic slogan “God Bless America” can never cover our horrific sins against the God who founded America…we must repent first!

The American church must repent for its worldliness and complacency and stand for the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. The body of Christ must love truth and correction more than its own life and comfort. It’s absolutely critical that we turn from our innate desire for easy, American Christianity: empty “showman” preachers, shallow “warm and fuzzy” messages, and crossless “seeker-sensitive” doctrines. “They say to the seers, ‘See no more visions!’ and to the prophets, ‘Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.'” Is. 30:10 NIV It’s time for each believer to take up his cross before we take up arms! The only hope for the American church is to unify under the banner of the cross and rally behind the true gospel of Christ. It’s time to get serious about cleaning up God’s house and moreso, the houses of God’s people. We must put purity above unity. “‘Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known, and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe – safe to do all these detestable things?'” Jer. 7:9-10 NIV There can be no compromise in this hour…the devil is playing for keeps. We must fear God more than Osama bin Laden. If there is anything to learn from the collapse of the twin towers it is how swiftly destruction can come (Heb. 10:31). We had better not miss its reflection in our own lives.

I have grieved and prayed for the victims, the rescuers and their families. And, I pray for the leaders and officials who are in positions to turn the tide of destruction before God completely removes His hand from this country. May the Lord have mercy on us all. May each of us repent of our own sins and pray as Daniel: “O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. O Lord…turn away your anger and your wrath…We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! Daniel 9:4-6, 13, 16, 18, 19 NIV
